Wheatgrass, For The Birds ….
In the last article : Whole Wheat …. Why Fifty Pounds?…. We explored the possibility of using a “feed grade” Wheat seed for growing Wheatgrass…. and after testing, it did grow somewhat… but clearly failed for the purposes of human consumption….. Never letting anything go to waste…. the spotty grass went to my chickens, who eagerly consumed every blade! My chickens consume various grains everyday… but they clearly enjoy the sprouted versions of each grain much more than the un-sprouted ones. I remember some guys sprouting to extend their food budget as sprouted feed easily doubles, triples and quadruples the weight of the original product … plus the animals get the additional benefit of consuming a much healthier “live fresh food”.
I will continue growing for my birds as they get every failed tray of Wheatgrass and occasionally some perfectly good ones because I spoil them, and they give me fresh eggs in return, a truly symbiotic relationship!
Our food choices have a direct effect on our health… so the quality of our choices can motivate, inspire and enrich us…. expanding our boundaries and ultimately the essence of who we become !
